Folk ist zurück. Nicht nur in der Musik steht der einfache, erzählende Song wieder hoch im Kurs, auch junge Künstler entdecken Folklore neu und stellen Naives neben Verstörendes. Das Festival folk-artNOW! präsentiert moderne Folk-Musik und zeitgenössische Folk-Art unter einem Dach. Auch abseits der großen Namen des New Folk wie CocoRosie oder Devendra Banhart gibt es spannende und schöne Musik von Songwritern und Bands, die folk-artNOW!” an insgesamt acht Konzertabenden vorstellen wird. Elf internationale Künstler aus dem “mare balticum” Raum zeigen zudem in einer permanenten Ausstellung Malereien, Grafiken und Fotografien und Installationen.

Twilite sind Pawel Milewski und Rafal Bawirsz aus Warschau. Nachdem sie sich anfangs auf der Spielwiese Punk und Hardcore auslebten, entdeckten sie bald ihre sanftere Seite mit einer Vorliebe für das sich eng verzahnende Zusammenspiel akustischer Gitarren. Die Songs ihres Debütalbums Bits & Pieces atmen eine sommerlich-milde Melancholie und bestechen mit elegisch-harmonischem Duettgesang. Polnischer Folk mit Popappeal irgendwo zwischen Simon & Garfunkel und Iron & Wine.

Ausstellung:
Die polnische Künstlerin Kasia Kmita widmet sich in ihren “Cutouts” der folkloristischen Tradition des polnischen Designs. Die Muster und Ornamente, mit denen sie arbeitet wurden im Süden und Osten Polens seit Jahrzehnten zur Verschönerung von Kleidungsstücken und anderen Textilien verwendet. Kasia Kmita kombiniert sie mit Motiven aus der urbanen, modernen Kultur: Handys, Comicfiguren, Firmenlogos und Verweise auf Pop- und Jugendkultur. Somit stellen die “Cutouts” einen intensiven Dialog zwischen der ursprünglichen polnischen Tradition und der realen Gegenwart eines Polens im Zeitalter der Globalisierung. Zwar versteht sich Kmitas Arbeit nicht vordergründlich als eine politische Aussage, doch gehen ihre “Cutouts” deutlich über den rein illustrativen Moment hinaus. Sie kommentieren die derzeitige gesellschaftliche Situation in Polen durch die Vereinbarkeit von scheinbar Gegensätzlichem und stellen zudem einen eigenständigen polnischen Impuls in der internationalen visuellen Kultur dar.
